README101 is a free AI tool that improves your open-source project’s README.
You can paste your readme content or enter your Github Repo URL to get instant feedback, suggestions, and a refined version of your README.
This makes your project more accessible and attractive to potential contributors and users.
I recently used README101 with my open-source project, Bootstrap 5 Design Resources. I entered the project’s GitHub address, and the tool quickly retrieved the README, analyzed it, and presented me with the following:
- A Score: My README received a 5 out of 10.
- Suggestions for Improvement: The AI recommended adding clear installation and usage instructions, including contribution guidelines, providing license information, organizing the content with headings and subheadings, and adding a brief project overview.
- A Refined README: README101 automatically added standard sections like “Project Overview,” “Installation,” “Usage,” and “Features” to my README. The refined version is provided in Markdown format, ready to be copied and pasted directly into my Github repository.

How to use it:
1. Go to the README101 website and enter your readme content. You have two options: paste your README content directly into the provided text field or input the URL of your GitHub repository. In my experience, the URL method occasionally resulted in an error message. If this happens, try again or opt for directly pasting your README content.

2. Click the “Review Readme” button. The AI will then retrieve your README content, analyze it, offer suggestions for improvement, and generate a refined version.
3. The refined version of your README will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. This revised version incorporates the AI’s suggestions, including the addition of commonly used sections like “Project Overview,” “Installation,” “Usage,” “Features,” and others, enhancing the organization and clarity of your README. Once you’ve reviewed the changes, you can copy and paste the refined README directly into your open-source project.
