Create and Enrich Spreadsheets with Free AI – Hugging Face Sheets

Create and enrich spreadsheets with AI using Hugging Face Sheets. Free AI tool with 100+ models, web search, and smart data enrichment features.

AI Sheets is an AI tool developed by Hugging Face that helps you create and enrich spreadsheets using open AI models.

This free AI tool lets you build structured tables from scratch with a simple text prompt or augment your own spreadsheets by adding new information, translating content, or summarizing data in specific columns.

Features

  • Multi-Model Access: Choose from hundreds of open-source models through Hugging Face’s inference providers
  • Web Search Integration: Ground your data with real-time web search to reduce hallucinations
  • Drag-and-Fill AI Generation: Expand datasets by dragging cells, similar to Excel formulas but powered by AI
  • Column-Specific Prompts: Configure different AI models and prompts for each column
  • Data Import/Export: Support for CSV, TSV, XLS, and XLSX file formats, plus Parquet export
  • Real-Time Model Testing: Switch between models instantly to compare results
  • In-Context Learning: The system learns from validated examples to improve generation quality
  • Scalable Processing: Handle larger datasets than typical AI chat interfaces

Use Cases

  • Enriching Sales Leads: A sales team can upload a list of company names and use AI Sheets to automatically populate columns with details like industry, location, company size, and key contacts by pulling information from the web.
  • Market Research Analysis: A business strategist can input a topic like “latest trends in renewable energy” and have the tool generate a structured table of key technologies, major companies, recent investments, and market projections, complete with sources.
  • Content Planning and SEO: A content creator can start with a list of primary keywords and use AI Sheets to expand it with long-tail keywords, related questions people ask online, and potential subtopics for a series of articles.
  • AI Model Fine-Tuning: An AI developer who needs a specific dataset—for example, a list of customer reviews classified by sentiment—can provide a few examples and have the tool generate hundreds more, creating a high-quality dataset for model training.

How To Use It

1. Visit the Hugging Face AI Sheets playground at https://huggingface.co/spaces/aisheets/sheets.

2. Write a clear description of the dataset you want to create. For instance, “Create a list of the top 10 largest cities in the world by population, with columns for the city, country, and estimated 2024 population.” If you have existing data, you can upload a CSV, TSV, or Excel file to work with.

Write a good prompt: Be detailed about the topic and content you want.

Activate “Search the web”: For deep research, fact-checking and up-to-date info.

Start with existing data: Generating new content from structured data helps improve accuracy. Import a file, then transform, augment, or enrich its content to suit your use case.

3. Activate “Search the web.” For most tasks, you’ll want to toggle this on. It allows the tool to pull in current and factual information.

4. Click the generate button and wait for the AI to build your spreadsheet. Once it’s done, you can start refining it:

  • Drag to generate new cells: Click and drag down from a cell’s dot handle to generate content for multiple cells at once.
  • Refine and validate cells: Edit cells directly or use thumbs up to mark good examples. The app learns from these examples examples to improve the quality of generated cells.
  • Improve prompts and try new models: Use the column settings to experiment with prompts and different models, click generate and see results in real time.
  • Manage columns: Use the column settings to edit names, hide columns, or generate cells. Click + to add new columns for translation, keywords, summaries, or using a custom prompt.
  • First column can contain duplicates You can delete rows by selecting one or multiple rows and right clicking. To mitigate duplication, you can add cells manually or modify the column prompt. If search results are not sufficiently complete, the model won’t be able to generate/pick new values for the cells, in this case currently the only option is to add them manually.

5. Download the spreadsheet as a CSV or Parquet file.

Pros

  • Time Savings: It is significantly faster at generating structured data than trying to do deep research with a general-purpose chatbot.
  • User Control: The per-column prompt configuration gives you precise control over how your table is generated and refined.
  • Model Variety: You get access to a huge library of open-source models from Hugging Face, so you can pick the best one for your specific task.
  • Scalability: It handles larger datasets better than most AI assistants.
  • Factual Accuracy: Grounding the content with web search is a key feature that helps minimize AI hallucinations and provides verifiable data.

Cons

  • Prompt Dependent: The quality of the output is heavily reliant on how well you write your initial prompt. Vague prompts lead to vague results.
  • Manual Adjustments: Sometimes the AI won’t find enough information from its search and will leave cells blank, requiring you to add the data manually.
  • Template Limitations: No pre-built templates for common use cases, requiring setup from scratch each time
  • Learning Curve for Prompts: Getting the best results requires understanding how to write effective prompts for each column

FAQs

Q: Do I need programming experience to use AI Sheets?
A: No programming knowledge is required. The interface works like a regular spreadsheet with AI-powered features. The most technical aspect is writing effective prompts, which improves with practice.

Q: How does the web search feature work?
A: When enabled, the tool searches the internet for current information related to your prompts. This helps ensure data accuracy and provides up-to-date information that might not be in the AI model’s training data.

Q: Can I use my own data with AI Sheets?
A: Yes, you can upload existing spreadsheet files in CSV, TSV, XLS, or XLSX formats. The AI can then enrich, transform, or analyze your existing data rather than starting from scratch.

Q: What’s the difference between AI Sheets and using ChatGPT for data tasks?
A: AI Sheets maintains data in a structured table format that’s easier to manipulate, export, and scale. It also offers column-specific model selection and learns from your feedback to improve results over time.
